Simple Steps to Purchase a Public Lands Camping Pass

1. To begin the purchase process online, sign in with your unique identifier on file.
  • Identifier options to login include your Wildlife Identification Number (WIN), Driver's Licence Number, Healthcare ID, Passport Number or Canadian Armed Forces Number.
  • If this is your first time purchasing a Public Lands Camping Pass in Alberta and you do not have a virtual WIN card, you can get one in a few easy steps. For more information click here.
2. Click the Purchase tab at the top of the page.

3. Select the Public Lands Camping Pass option from the list.
  • Available Public Lands Camping Pass options will display.
  • Considering buying an annual pass rather than the 3-Day if you think you might like to camp on public land in the pass area for more than three days a year. Passes are non-refundable and non-transferable.
4. Select the Purchase option next to the Public Lands Camping Pass you wish to purchase.

5. Follow the on-screen prompts to the shopping cart page to complete the checkout process.

To view your purchased Pass online, select My Account then Orders/Reprints.
  • Please print the Pass or have it on hand via the mobile app to provide to an officer upon request when camping.
  • You can easily access your virtual WIN card, Pass and regulations at anytime via the mobile app.

When is a Public Lands Camping Pass not needed?

  • for children and youth under 18
  • to camp on public land outside of the camping pass area, or in an established campground where camping fees are already charged
  • to use public land for the day for other recreational activities
  • to access public land for authorized work or volunteer duties
  • for clients of disposition holders where the holder’s disposition is for the purpose of camping
  • For First Nations people with Status card
  • north of the Red Deer River for:
    • Metis Settlement members
    • recognized Métis harvesters
    • Aseniwuche Winewak Nation members

Persons receiving benefits from any of the following programs are exempt:
  • Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH)
  • the Adult Health Benefit
  • Income Support

Passes do not apply to:
  • private, municipal or federally-owned lands
  • lands under Provincial Parks Act(Provincial Parks, Wildland Provincial Parks, Provincial Recreation Areas) and Wilderness Areas, Ecological Reserves, Heritage Rangelands, Natural Areas Act.
  • the Kananaskis Conservation Pass area

Additional Information

  • Campers should review information for Camping on Public Lands and know location-specific requirements for where you plan to random camp.
  • Virtual WIN Card
    • There is a one-time $6.00 fee (plus GST) to create a WIN online at AlbertaRELM.com. The cost is a one-time $8.00 fee (plus GST) to create a WIN if completed at a local Licence Issuer. The WIN never expires.
    • A physical WIN card is not required, the virtual WIN is all that is needed. If you have a WIN number, but haven't set up an account yet, please look up your profile to update.
  • Name changes to your account can only be done in-person at a Camping Pass Issuer. Please check your local location for hours of operation.
